Travelling to Wild Dunes (SC)
Just returned from Wild Dunes at Isle of Palms, SC (which is just outside Charleston, SC).
There's an example, by the way, of a community which has figured out how to survive on tourism dollars!
Wild Dunes is about a 4-hour drive from Atlanta, making it about 5 1/2 hours from Catoosa county. There's golf... tennis... oh, and that beach thing!
You can rent condos at various price ranges, but will be requird to book in one-week increments during the summer season.
Staying in Wild Dunes (a private resort community) versus Isle of Palms gives you access to some extra features (gated community, two golf courses, tennis, clubhouse, bike rentals, etc.); but you can get lots of rental opportunities on IoP itself, too.
There are plenty of restaurants on IoP and Sullivan's Island... all resort casual. Or, if you want to go into town, you're only about 20 minutes outside of Charleston's historic downtown, with shopping, eating and various other sites of interest.
If you're anything like our family though, you'll find yourself just hanging out on or around the beach wondering where the hours have gone...
